Government urged to upgrade Kikam Technical Institute

Takoradi, Nov. 25, GNA – The Youth for Nzemamaanle Development, a group concerned with development of youth of Nzemaland, has called on the government to upgrade the Kikam Technical Institute to enable it to offer courses in petrochemistry to benefit the youth.

Mr Alfred Mensah, a spokesman for the group, made the call at a press conference at Takoradi at the weekend.

He urged the government to establish a petrochemical industry in the area to offer job opportunities to the youth to enable them to benefit from the oil find.

Mr Mensah said that a scholarship scheme must be instituted for needy but brilliant students, adding; “We deserve to be number one beneficiaries of the revenue to be accrued from the oil industry since we will be affected directly by its operations”.

He urged oil companies to put in place necessary safety measures to avert any negative environmental consequences as a result of the oil exploitation. Mr Mensah said exploitation of oil had caused problems for some countries and there was the need for the government to ensure that oil companies did the right thing. 25 Nov. 09
