Government urged to publish Modus Operandi of Scholarship Secretariat

Kumasi, Sept. 24, GNA – The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), has appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency publish the modus operandi of the scholarship secretariat. In a press statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the National President Mr Michael Adusei said over the years, the operations of the Scholarship Secretariat had not been transparent making it the preserve of a few privileged ones.

It said GRASAG had not been happy about how the Secretariat had been operating since its establishment and wanted its operations to be reviewed immediately.

In a related development, GRASAG also appealed to the government to disburse the 2007/2008 academic year’s thesis and bursary grants to enable graduate students to complete their studies. The statement indicated that although the 2008/2009 academic year had begun, the thesis and bursary grant for 2007/2008 was yet to be released and that the undue delay was creating a lot of financial difficulties for the students.

According to the statement, a lot of efforts had been made to facilitate the payment of the grants including press conferences and press releases but all to no avail. “GRASAG is therefore appealing to the GETFUND, Scholarship Secretariat and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the government to help expedite action on the payment of the grant to prevent beneficiaries from running into more difficulties,” the statement added.
