Government urged to provide Amansie West district with infrastructure

Obuasi, July 22, GNA- The government has been asked to provide the Amansie West district in Ashanti with the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the development of the area.

Mr Yaw Damah, a citizen of Watreso in the district, who made the appeal, expressed regret that the current poor state of roads in the district had impeded the free movement of goods and services. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Obuasi on Thursday, Mr Damah said: “When it rains, the matter becomes worse as the drivers find it extremely difficult to encounter the hills at J-Baa, Dadiase and those between Datano and Watreso”.

He said all the bridges spotted on Watreso to Obuasi road were spoilt and currently “boards are being used to serve as improvised bridges for vehicles to ply on them”.

Mr Damah also said the bad nature of the roads was seriously affecting health care delivery in the area, adding: “Rushing patients with emergency cases to the Agroyesum Saint Martin’s Hospital, the only hospital in the district is a big problem due to the heavy and multiple potholes on the roads”.

He called on the authorities to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the roads to enable farmers to cart their foodstuffs to the marketing centres to help reduce poverty in the area. Mr Damah again appealed to the government to consider the construction of a district hospital to help improve health care to the people. 22 July 5
