The Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church has called on the government to partner the private sector to solve the housing shortage facing the country.
The church proposed that government should offer sovereign guarantees for reputable Ghanaian businesses and real estate developers, to raise the necessary capital to undertake housing projects.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church at the end of the third session of the Tenth Synod of the Church at Koforidua.
The communiqué called on government to put in place measures that would compel the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to change their focus from the construction of stores to the construction of residential accommodations, to help solve the national housing deficit.
The church recommended that the Assemblies should negotiate for the release of those uncompleted affordable housing projects in their jurisdiction to them for completion.
The church expressed its condolences to the people of Ghana, government, wife and family of the late President John Evans Atta Mills and urged Ghanaians to ensure peace before, during and after the December elections.
