Gomoa Mankoadze (C/R), Oct. 13, GNA – The Adontehene of Gomoa Mankoadze, Nana Fano Ababio, has expressed concern about the standard of education in the town.
Addressing a durbar to climax the annual “Iyi-Oye” festival of the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Mankoadze last Sunday, he stated that for the past 15 years the town had been able to produce “any good scholar” since the aggregates of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were not good enough to enable them to enter senior secondary schools.
The Chief blamed the situation on teachers who had spent between 15 to 20 years in the same school and “have exhausted their methodology in teaching” and also attributed the situation to the lack of interest of parents in the education of their children.
Nana Ababio called on the Ghana Education Service to transfer the teachers who had over stayed in the area.
The Adontehene also appealed to the government to focus on its policies and programmes to ensure their full implementation. He pointed out that the undue delay in the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the inability to sustain the free delivery of women in government health facilities had dampened the spirit of the people.
Nana Ababio urged the government to ensure the success of the CAN 2008 football competition in Ghana since the nation had a lot to gain from it.
He asked the Gomoa District Assembly to develop Mankoadze beach, which he described as one of the best natural beaches in the country into a holiday resort to promote tourism in the area. Nana Ababio expressed concern about the neglect of the town by governments and stated that all development projects including the provision of a clinic, potable water, electricity, schools and the tarring of roads were through self-help. He commended Nana Robert Ocran, Executive Director of Mankoadze Fisheries for his contribution towards the development of the town.
Miss Edith Asare, a midwife at the Noguchi Memorial Clinic at Gomoa Oyaadze, educated the women on safe motherhood and stated that the Central Region was leading in maternal mortality with the Gomoa District as number one and appealed especially to husbands to held turn the tide. Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive, commended the people for their communal spirit and said the government and the District Assembly had not neglected the area, adding that, they would get their fair share of the national cake.
The DCE pointed out that there were 187 communities in the District and that their needs were being addressed gradually and appealed to the people to be patient.
She promised to allocate a refuse container to the town to enhance sanitation.
The Chief of the town, Nana Adu IX, in welcoming address called the people to unite for the development of the town.
