Sekondi Feb.17,- GNA- Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday said the party would continue protesting against the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill (ROPAB) until the government withdraws it.
He was speaking when Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the NDC met executives of the Party in the Southern Sector at Sekondi. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the Party would take the matter to court when the bill is passed into a law.
He called on the Ghana Bar Association, the Christian Council and civic society organisations to join the minority to resist bad policies of the government.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the Party, urged the government to listen to the minority on the issue of ROPAB. He said it would do the country a lot of good if the bill is discarded.
Mr Nketiah asked the government to direct its energy towards alleviating the hardships of the people instead of forcing the passage of the ROPAB.
Dr. Adjei called for unity, peace and co-operation in the Party to ensure effective and efficient re-organisation. He said the leadership of the Party was committed to its growth and development. Dr John Abu, Western Regional Chairman of the NDC noted that the party was doing well in the region and hopes to re-capture seats it lost in the last elections in 2008.
He said the regional branch fully supports all efforts of the party to re-capture power in the 2008 elections.
