Government to support the youth to advance in Science and Technology

Takrowase (E/R), Nov. 1, GNA – The Takrowase Youth Leadership Training Institute in the Kwaebibirem District will be developed into a leading technical institution in West Africa, Mr. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports announced at the weekend. Addressing staff and students of the Institute at Takrowase, Mr. Baah-Wiredu said the upgrading forms part of a national programme to support the youth with equipment to develop their skills. In line with this objective, the government has signed an agreement with Microsoft Company of the United States to procure computers and accessories for designated schools to boost computer proficiency among the students, the Minister said.

“Ultimately, even children in primary schools will also have access to computer,” he added.

Mr. Baah-Wiredu said for any nation to advance, the youth should be appropriately equipped to become the vanguard for scientific and technological progress.

He said more opportunities were being created for the youth to continue their education, adding that “open colleges” were being established and polytechnics being expanded to absorb more students who would wish to further their education.

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, Mr K. A. Kissi, announced that the Takrowase Institute would receive 358 million cedis from a Youth Fund to be launched on November 9, this year. He pledged a personal donation of computers, cement, sewing machines and a gas cooker to the school.

Mrs. Ewura Abena Ahwoi, Eastern Regional Director of Education, advised parents to buy books for their wards to supplement government supplies.
