Government to support 50 most deprived schools

Lawra, Jan. 25, GNA – Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, on Saturday announced that the government had sourced funds to support school children of the 50 most deprived schools in the country.

This, he said, was to put deprived children and communities at par with the more endowed schools and communities. Mr Dery announced this at Lawra when he presented assorted items valued at more than five million cedis to institutions and football clubs.

The Lawra English and Arabic Junior Secondary School received 50 bags of cement. One million cedis and two footballs went to the Lawra Baptist Youth Soccer Club, while the Lawra Soccer Warriors received 500,000 cedis and one football.

The Deputy Minister said the donations were based on the request of the beneficiaries who approached him with their problems.

“This is my widow’s mite to the beneficiaries but I can assure you that anytime they have problems they can approach me, that is why we are in government”, he added.

Mr Dery charged the people to eschew all forms of disputes and send their children to school so that the future would register more literate who would continue to develop their communities into cities. On the forthcoming general elections the Deputy Minister called on the electorate to register massively when the voters’ register opened and to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continue with the good work.

He advised the youth not to be lured into early sexual activities in view of the rising numbers of HIV/AIDS patients and teenage pregnancies in the country.

Mr Dery who is also aspiring Member of Parliament for Lawra/Nandom said he had opened party offices at Babile, Eremon and Zambo and furnished the Lawra office.

He said he had arranged for the extension of electricity to Babile, Kokotegu, Goziiri, Ko, Yagtori and Gengenkpe all in the Lawra District and called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the facility to reduce poverty in the area.
