Government to supply computers to all schools

Mr. Lee Ocran, the Minister of Education, has said by the end of the year 60,000 computers would be supplied to all schools in Ghana.

He said each teacher would also be given one laptop computer to help facilitate teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools.

Mr. Ocran said this when he presented 5,500 laptop computers to be distributed to schools in the Eastern Region at a ceremony in Koforidua. The computers were locally assembled by Rig Communications Limited under a partnership agreement with the ministry of education.

Mr. Ocran said Ghana could not afford to be left behind in the teaching of ICT, especially at a time when ICT is an examinable subject in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr. Victor Smith, the Eastern Regional Minister, said the Government had so far done great things in the educational sector since assuming power three and half years now, especially in the region.

He dismissed assertions by opponents of the Government that it had neglected the region and said contrary, the area had benefited a lot from many projects to improve the living standards of the people.**
