Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs has said that his outfit will reintroduce a regional workshop for various categories of staff of the Houses of Chiefs and Traditional Councils.
Dr Daanaa said there was the need to for its members to undergo regular training to build their capacity to perform their duties effectively and efficiently for national development.
He said this on Friday when executives of the Ghana National Association of Chieftaincy Workers (GNACWO) paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.
Dr Daanaa said he would soon meet the President of the National House of Chiefs to discuss the Legislative Instrument 798 of 1972 and the Constitution Instrument of 27 of 1972 and see how best it could be amended to reflect the current economic trends in the country.
He appealed to citizens who applied for jobs in the Chieftaincy Ministry to be committed to the services of the work and not only focus on the money adding that team work and commitment is key to moving the Ministry forward.
Dr Daanaa noted that he will use his experience in Chieftaincy issues to benefit all and that his vision was to get committed and intelligent people to work in the Ministry and ensure it moves from strength to strength.
Alhaji Moro Seidu, Vice Chairman of GNACWO on behalf of the Association, congratulated the Minister for his new appointment and expressed their commitment in helping to ensure that his vision becomes successful.
Alhaji Seidu said the Association began as a Welfare Association and now registered with the Registrar General’s Department with membership comprising of staff of all Houses of Chiefs and their Traditional Councils.
He said some of the problems confronting the Association include delay in filling the large number of vacancies created as a result of retirements and deaths, promotion of staff members, lack of counsel for some of the Houses of Chiefs and amendment of statutory documents.
Alhaji Seidu appealed to the Minister to help address the challenges faced by the Association and invited the Minister to its 6th Biennial National Congress slated for September 2013 at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
