Government to motivate workers in the rural areas

Wa, Feb. 18, GNA- Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister on Thursday outlined government plans to attract workers to the rural areas.

He said the package include the provision of transport, accommodation and other incentives to workers who pick up appointments in rural communities.

Mr Dery was speaking at the end of a three-day performance workshop organized by the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at Wa.

The workshop, which attracted over 100 participants reviewed last year’s activities and drew an action plan for 2005. The Regional Minister said the incentive packages fulfilled the President’s principle of inspiring workers to facilitate national development.

He appealed to the health personnel to accept postings to the rural areas and act as worthy ambassadors to others.

Dr Daniel Yeyemain, Senior Medical Officer said frantic efforts were underway to resolve the problems of understaffing, accommodation and transportation facing the Service in the Region.

He said the GHS would this year intensify educational programmes on community- based health planning and service and update health facilities and surveillance system in the Region.
