Government to Hold State Funeral for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on November 28

The Government of Ghana, led by President John DramaniMahama, has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, on Friday, November 28th at the Independence Square in Accra.

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, the ceremony will recognize Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings’ “invaluable contributions to the advancement of the rights of women and children in Ghana and to national development.”

The former First Lady passed away on Thursday, October 23rd at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76 years old.

News of her death sparked an outpouring of grief nationwide, with tributes flooding in from political leaders, civil soviety groups, and ordinary citizens who hailed her as a trailblazer and championed for women’s empowerment. 

In the wake of her passing, Parliament suspended its sitting in her honour, while her family requested privacy in her honor.
