Government to collaborate on pensioners ID Cards

Accra, July 25, GNA – The Electoral Commission and the Accountant General’s Department are to collaborate on the issuance of Identity Cards for Government Pensioners within the next two weeks to help ease the difficulties they undergo.

A statement by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning signed by Nana Ohene-Ntow, Government Spokesman, Finance and Economic Planning, said the Government had noted with concern the difficulty, which Government Pensioners went through in order to have their pictures taken for identity cards.

The release said in many cases Pensioners had to travel long distances across the country to undertake this rather simple exercise. “This situation creates unnecessary stress and inconvenience for these elderly citizens, whose advanced age makes it really difficult for them to go through such stress and strain,” the statement said.

The statement said to alleviate these hardships, the Government had made arrangements with the Electoral Commission to put at the disposal of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, cameras and relevant facilities for the taking of pictures of Government Pensioners at the Regional and possibly some district capitals. 25 July 05
