Government to assist Brong Ahafo teak farmers

Techiman (B/A), Sept 5, GNA – The government is to provide loans to farmers engaged in teak plantation development in Brong-Ahafo as part of poverty alleviation efforts, Nana Joseph Ackesson, Odikro of Atabourso in the Techiman Municipality and chairman of African Reforestation Union (ARU) told newsmen on Tuesday.

He said the aim of the government was to achieve human centred development to eradicate poverty, hence the institution of the capitation grant, national health insurance policy and the reforestation programme.

He urged individual farmers engaged in teak plantation development in the region to take advantage and register with the forestry division to enjoy the benefits of the government package. The chief said the package would be provided through the forestry division offices and called on individual teak farmers to support their registration with their land documents.

He appealed to teak plantation farmers outside the forest reserve areas in the region to come together and support the ARU.
