Government support for disaster victims to discontinue

Ho, May 8, GNA – Mr Henry Ametefe, Volta Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), gave the assurance that government would continue to support disaster victims through the organisation.

He, however, appealed to Ghanaians to be disaster conscious by engaging competent artisans, choose good building sites and take insurance policies to protect their properties against fire, flood, storm and other disasters. Mr. Ametefe who briefing journalists in Ho on Friday, said if government would have to support every disaster victim then it would end up building homes for almost everybody in the country.

He said NADMO would sign Memorandums of Understanding with District Assemblies to ensure that contractors were surcharged with the rehabilitation of damaged public buildings arising from shoddy work. Mr. Ametefe said in future government would only take responsibility for clearing debris arising out of disasters.
