Government should bring back subsidies on petroleum products-NUGS

Accra, Jan. 12, GNA – The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Thursday called on the Government to review its decision to withdraw subsidies on petroleum products.

The withdrawal led to the recent increases in the prices of petroleum products by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). Mr Ayariga Osman Abdulai, President of NUGS, made the call at a press conference in Accra.

He noted that some drivers and traders were taking advantage of the increases to cheat the people and appealed to Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Ghana Trades Union Congress to educate their drivers not to charge exorbitant fares. Mr Ayariga announced that NUGS would not embark on any demonstration to force government to revert to four years of Senior High School.
