Government reviews curfew on Bawku and its environs

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – The Interior Minister, Mr Martin Amidu, has on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council, and by Executive Instrument, reviewed the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its environs.

A statement signed by the Minister in Accra said it took effect from Tuesday, August 10.

It said the new curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality and its environs are now from 2300 hours to 0400 hours each day, previously they were from 2200 hours to 0500 hours each day.

However, the statement said the curfew hours for Gushegu Township and its environs remain unchanged.

“The curfew hours for the Gushegu Township and environs remain from 12 midnight to 0400 hours each day,” it added.

The statement said the review of the curfew hours had been as a result of the sustained peace in the area as well as to afford the people an opportunity to observe the Ramadan.

“Government urges the people to use the holy period of Ramadan to promote unity among them and to work harder than ever before to bring lasting peace to the area”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, Government reiterated that there was a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs – Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga and Zoasi from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any person found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
