Government renews curfew on Bawku and its environs

Accra, April 22, GNA – The Ministry of the Interior has re-imposed the curfew on the Bawku Municipality, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoosi and their environs.

A statement signed by Mr Kwamena Bartels, the Minister, said the curfew hours from 10.00 pm to 4.00 am remained unchanged. The statement noted that government believed that the maintenance of the curfew hours would serve as an incentive to help maintain and consolidate the peace in and around Bawku. Government appealed to all factions to exercise maximum restraint and partner government to bring permanent peace to the area.

Government also commended the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and all stakeholders in the Bawku municipality and its environs for the improved security situation in the area. Mr Bartels reminded the public that the ban on all persons in the

Bawku Municipal Area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoosi and Garu townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon remained in force and any person found with arms or ammunitions would be arrested and prosecuted. 22 April 08
