Government renews curfew in Bawku, Gushegu and environs

Accra, March 23, GNA – The Interior Minister, Mr Cletus Avoka, on Monday renewed the curfews imposed on the Bawku Municipality, the Gushegu township and their immediate environs with effect from March 23 for another week. The curfew hours, according to a statement singed by the Minister, remain unchanged from 12 midnight to 0400 hours each day. The statement expressed government’s appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and peace-loving people of the areas for sustaining the peace.

“Government continues to urge them to embrace and support peace-building efforts it has initiated and join hands with other civil society organisations in their efforts to bring lasting peace to the areas.” The statement reiterated that the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal area, as well as the Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions and other offensive weapons, was still in force and any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted. 23 March 09
