Government renews curfew in Bawku

Accra, April 30, GNA – The Minister for the Interior, has on the advice of Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, renewed for a week the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr. Martin A.B.K. Amidu, the Minister of the Interior, said the curfew took effect from Friday, April 30. It said the curfew hours remained from 1600 hours to 0600 hours each day.

The statement said: “Government continues to appeal to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders and the people of the area to unite and work towards the return of sustainable peace to their various communities.” Meanwhile, government reiterated that there is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, and its immediate environs (Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi) from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons, and any person found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
