Government relies on GNA to make informed decisions – Information Minister

Koforidua, April 13, GNA – Mrs Oboshie Sai-Coffie, Minister of Information and National Orientation, at the weekend said Government relied heavily on Ghana News Agency (GNA) reports to make informed decisions and urged the staff to continue to do their best. She said the importance of GNA in the collection and dissemination of information and the selling of Ghana to the outside world could not be overemphasized.

Mrs Sai-Cofie, who was interacting with staff at the Koforidua Office of the Agency during a working visit, said the Ministry was working around the clock to provide it with adequate resources. Later at a media briefing, the Eastern Regional Minster, Mr Kwadwo Affram-Asiedu expressed displeasure at the behaviour of some Media Practitioners in the Region, who refused to cover his programmes on the grounds that he did not give them money. He said even though Media practitioners in the Region were generally doing very well, a few had made it a point to demand money after every event, adding that the practice was denting the image of the media.

Mr Asiedu said he had been informed that some of the reporters were not being paid by their employers hence such poor attitude and, therefore, urged the Leadership of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to take up the matter. He appealed to Mrs Sai-Cofie to also go into the issue why some media houses were not paying their staff and also the remuneration packages of journalists in the country.
