The Japanese Government on Friday gave 60,000 dollars grant for the construction of a school block at Guma in the Tamale Municipality in the Northern Region.
An agreement to that effect was signed by Mrs Kazuko Asai, Japan’s Ambassador to Ghana and representatives of the beneficiary school under the Japanese Government Grant Assistance Grassroots Human Security Project (GGHSP).
Under the agreement a block of six classrooms and a place of convenience would be constructed for the local Nuri English and Arabic School.
Mrs Asai expressed the hope that the facility would create a congenial environment to ensure sound teaching and enhance learning thereby improving the current enrolment level of the school.
She urged the management of the school to regularly maintain the facility so that it could serve posterity as well.
Mrs Asai also expressed gratitude at plans by the school to run an adult literacy programme saying that would greatly benefit the Muslim community in the area.
Alhaji Shibu Zakari Osman, Proprietor of the school, said the project when completed would help the school to expand its intake of 100 students annually to 300.
He expressed appreciation and pledged to use the grant for its intended purpose.
