Government is committed to fair share of resources- President

Koforidua, June 02, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills has assured the people of the Kwahu North District that he would not relent in ensuring that they got their fair share of the government’s 93Better Ghana Agenda” initiative.

He said the government was determined to ensure that the nation’s resources were equitably distributed to every part of the country including the Kwahu North District.

President Mills said this when he toured the area on Wednesday to inaugurate projects that the government had completed as part of his three-day working visit to the Eastern Region.

He inaugurated a GH¢ 261, 000 six-unit classroom block at Amankwaakrom, a GH¢ 560,000 12-unit girls’ dormitory at the Donkorkrom Agricultural Senior High School and a GH¢ 65,000 water project at Maame Krobo.

President Mills called on beneficiaries of the projects to make good use of them and to ensure maintenance since that would encourage government to bring in more development projects to the area.

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, said the government had assessed a 32 million-dollar loan facility which would soon be invested in the District for agricultural development.

He said the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) had given approval for the establishment of a science block, dinning hall and two semi detached teachers bungalows at the Donkorkrom Agricultural Senior High School.

Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, the Education Minister, assured the students, especially those in the agricultural, science and technical departments, that a 70 million loan facility had been accessed to improve those sectors in the entire country.

The chiefs and headmasters of the various towns and schools respectively made a common request from the government.

They pleaded for quality roads, water, extension of electricity and extension of health facilities to the towns and villages. They also appealed to government to provide another pontoon in addition to the one being used.
