“Government is committed to deliver on campaign promises”-Ofosu Ampofo

Koforidua, March 20, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, on Friday assured members of the Tertiary Education and Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that government would not let them down in delivering on its campaign promises for a better Ghana. “Government would ensure that promises made according to the manifesto of the party are delivered to their fullness.” Mr Ofosu-Ampofo gave the assurance when the All Nations University College, Nurses Training School and the Koforidua Polytechnic branches of the TEIN paid a courtesy call on him to congratulate him on his appointment. He said government had already indicated his resolve to cut down expenditure at the executive level to be able to channel those expenses into the provision of social amenities to make life more meaningful to Ghanaians.

Mentioning the reduction of ministers from 89to 75, the abolishing of special assistants and advisors and the reduction of taxes on fuel, the regional minister described the move as a clear indication of a government determined to better the lot of the people other than concentrating on a few in government. To him the expenditure on accommodation, fuel and other facilities to be enjoyed by the ministers that were reduced was a huge save to the economy that could be channelled to other areas of development. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo cited the appointments of young people to ministerial positions as another development that must ginger members of TEIN to rally behind the party and the government for a better Ghana. He said “the president has demonstrated against all odds that he recognizes the contribution of the youth in national development and has acted accordingly.” The regional minister therefore advised the students to aspire for higher laurels in education and also to be mindful of their reputation so that when they are nominated for public service they would not be found wanting.
