Government informed of final funeral rites of Nana Nketsiah

A delegation from the Western Regional House of Chiefs on Monday informed the government of the final funeral rites for the late Nana Professor Kobina Nketsia, Omanhen of Esikado.

The delegation, led by Nana Akwasi Agyeman, also informed the government of the death and final funeral rites of Nana Aba Asafuaba, Queenmother of the area.

The combined funeral of the two traditional leaders comes off on Saturday, November 25, 2012, at Esikado in the Western Region.

The announcement was made during a courtesy call on Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at his office at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

Nana Nketsiah died in 1995 at the age of 79 after having ruled for 47 years.

The late Nana Prof. Kobina Nketsia was a nationalist and played key roles in the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention, the Convention Peoples Party as well as the Ghana Trades Union Congress.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur said the government would be heavily represented at the funeral.

He lauded Nana Prof. Kobina Nketsia for his immense contribution to the country’s struggle for independence and nationhood.
