Government hands over classrooms to schools

Tamale, Nov. 26, GNA – The government has handed over six- unit classroom blocks completed under the Emergency Senior High School (SHS) Infrastructure Programme to four senior high schools in the Northern Region. They were handed over to the Kalpohin and Vittin SHSs in Tamale and the Tolon SHS in the Tolon/Kumbungu District and the Saboba SHS in the Saboba District and each cost of 2.4 billion old cedis. Mr. Anthony Baajsana, the Northern Regional Consultant of the Architectural and Engineering Service Limited (AESL) who handed the school blocks at separate ceremonies, said the facility would be used for a grace period of six months.

During that period if any defects were noticed the contractor would be made to do the repairs before all his money would be paid to him. He said 20 SHSs in the region were expected to benefit from the construction of such infrastructure. Mrs Elizabeth De-Souza, Northern Regional Director of Education, said the Ghana Education Service would set up a monitoring team to ensure that the school blocks were properly maintained. 26 Nov 10
