Government hands over 170 four wheel vehicles to MMDAs

Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday gave the assurance that government would continue to deepen the decentralization programme throughout the country.

He said, ‘entrenching grassroot was one of the ways government would develop to achieve the decentralization programme.’

Vice President Mahama said this when he symbolically presented 170 Nissan Patrol four wheel vehicles and 6,000 motorbikes to all the Metropolitan, Municipal and district Assemblies in the country.

This is the first time central government has distributed motor-bikes to the assemblies in the country.

Vice President Mahama who called on them to use the vehicles in inspecting and monitoring all development projects in their areas, promised that government would continue to provide capacity building for staff of various assemblies to make Ghana a model of democracy.

Mr Samuel Ofusu Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, who received the vehicles, gave the assurance that they would enhance their movement and increase productivity at all levels.

He said all the vehicles were covered with comprehensive insurance.
