Government endorses Spio-Garbrah’s appointment

Accra, Sept. 4, GNA – The government has endorsed Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former Minister of Communications under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime for appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO).

Nana Akomea, Minister of Information, who announced this at the weekly press briefing in Accra, said government’s endorsement provided a basis for the appointment to be confirmed by the CTO General Council. He said the decision was in furtherance of the government’s belief that political vindictiveness should not play a role in the supporting Ghanaians for placement in high office, once such people are qualified.

The Minister said: “In arriving at this decision the government noted that Mr Spio-Garbrah had been initially short listed on his own merits by the CTO”, adding that as a former Minister of Communications, he would acquit himself creditably.

Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications, leaves for Kampala on Saturday at the head of a three-man government delegation to attend the meeting of the Council at which Mr Spio-Garbrah, who was also a former Minister of Education, would be introduced.
