Government empathises with Nakpanduri residents

Tamale, Aug 5, GNA – The Minister of the Interior, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, is in the Northern Region to convey government message of sympathy to the people of Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu-Yonyoo District who were affected by the security operation aimed at arresting Johnson Kombian, a hardened criminal.

The Minister said his visit was in response to some media reports which try to suggest that the government was not sensitive to the plight of the people who were affected as the result of the operation.

Mr Kunbuor was addressing the media in Tamale on his way to Nakpanduri on Friday.

He defended the action of the security operations and said it was professional aimed at capturing the fugitive.

Some relief items had also been dispatched to be distributed to the people who were affected by the operation.

Last year some security operatives, including the police, conducted an operation in the Nakpanduri area aimed at capturing Johnson Kombian, a criminal who had perpetrated several nefarious activities in and around the area.

Some people were affected by the operation, some of them had their houses burnt, foodstuffs destroyed and some were injured.

However, the fugitive was later captured in Togo and brought to Ghana.
