Government develops a National Housing Programme

Accra June 22, GNA – Government has developed a National Housing Programme to enable every Ghanaian to own a decent and affordable accommodation.

The Director of Policy Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry of Works and Housing, Dr Thomas Agyapong, who announced this, said the Government would step up private housing development.

Dr Agyapong was launching the second International Building Exhibition scheduled for September 13 to September 16 in Accra. The Exhibition, under the theme: “Let’s Build Ghana Right-Using the Right Products and Services”, is aimed at educating stakeholders in the building industry on the use of the right products.

During the exhibition, seminars would be organized for the participants made up of carpenters and small-scale contractors. Dr Agyapong said the Ministry acknowledged the exhibition, as a one-stop market for both producers and consumers in the industry. He said the proliferation of foreign building materials on the local market; the absence of technical data, advice on appropriate choices and installation of materials must be of concern to all stakeholders in the building industry.

The Director advised stakeholders in the building industry to use the right technical products and services and avoid the use of cheap imported goods and services.

Ms Marilyn Efua Huoadjeto, the Exhibition Director, said the organizers, Royal Protocol, had reached an agreement with an Ivorian company MONFORT to market the event in the Francophone West African countries to attract participation from the Sub-Region.

Ms Huoadjeto appealed to stakeholders in the industry to participate in the exhibition to improve on their performance.
