Government Determined To Promote Development Of Children – Obeng

Agona Nsaba (Central Region), 20 Oct. The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Solomon K Obeng, has said that the government is determined to promote the education of girls for socio-economic development of the nation. Mr Obeng was speaking at the 36th anniversary celebration of the Nsaba Presbyterian Secondary School at Agona Nsaba. He urged parents to take advantage of the facilities to promote the education of girls. Mr Obeng also urged parents and school authorities to encourage girls to study hard and to remain in school since they are also capable of becoming engineers, doctors and other professionals just like boys. Mr Obeng was happy that the school has 422 girls as against 254 boys. The Director-General noted that high academic achievement has a direct relationship with discipline and said disciplined students are more likely to do well academically and in life. He said the government embarked on the education reforms to ensure quality education for the social, economic and political advancement of the people. He said, however, that government alone cannot finance education and appealed to the community for support in the provision of school facilities.
