Government committed to youth employment

Akyem Oda, June 27, GNA – Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, MP for Akyem Oda, on Tuesday stressed that employment creation was a priority of the government to help reduce poverty.

He said social upheavals would be avoided while peace and security would be enhanced when a large segment of the population was engaged in productive economic activity.

Mr Osafo-Maafo said this when he held a meeting with the constituency executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Akyem Oda during which a group of about 24 youth who announced their defection to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a few weeks ago apologised to the MP.

The group led by one Mr David Okyere alias Okyeman said their action was a ploy to attract the attention of the NPP Executive to their needs. Mr Osafo-Maafo said the attainment of the objectives of the policy required the implementation of pragmatic programmes like the Youth Employment Programme, Presidential Special Initiatives and private sector development to enhance macro-economic stability in the country. He said for the first time in several years the rate of inflation dropped below 10 percent, adding that, a congenial environment for investment was being created to attract credible investors to support the government’s efforts to create jobs.

Present at the meeting were Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, Birim South District Chief Executive, Mr Rockson Ofori, Constituency Chairman and Mr Osei Frimpong, Special Assistant to the MP.
