Government committed to UDS’ medical school

Accra, July 25,GNA- Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Youth, Sport and Education on Friday said government had not abandoned the University of Developmental Studies'(UDS) Medical School.

He said the School would not be closed down but rather equipped to function like a normal Medical school.

The Minister was responding to queries from the Minority on the alleged closure of the UDS’ Medical school.

The House had before it a motion for the adoption of a report on a request by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning to waive such taxes and duties amounting to 2.9 million dollars in respect of the execution of the Loan agreement between Ghana and Spain for the financing of supply of educational materials, modular buildings and vehicles to the UDS and Polytechnics.

Members later overwhelmingly approved the request.

In another development, the House granted government’s request to sign an agreement between Ghana and United States regarding mutual assistance between their customs administrations and the Convention on Early Notification and Assistance in the case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency.

It granted permission for the ratification of the Basel Protocol on Liability and Compensation for Damage Resulting from Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and the Basel Ban Amendment. The House passed the Labour Bill and the Juvenile Justice Bill.
