Paga (UE), Dec. 27, GNA – The Minister of the Interior, Mr. Martin Amidu, has restated the government’s commitment to improve on the living conditions of Ghanaians as promised by the President.
He said this when he paid separate courtesy calls on some chiefs in th= e Upper East Region to wish them happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Mr Amidu said the President, as a former teacher, was more worried about the unemployment situation in the country especially among the youth and that everything was being done to address the problem.
“Now, the economy had been stabilized and more good things are to com= e for Ghanaians”, he said. Mr Amidu said the government had approved job creation package to star= t next year under which the youth would be employed to help prevent crime associated with unemployment.
He said the government would enter into private partnership with other organizations in the private sector to create more jobs. Mr Amidu told the chiefs and people in the Region that a lot of development projects would be executed throughout the country including the Upper East Region.
He said the government had started a programme to recruit about 2,000 police officers to help address the manpower needs of the Police Service. Vehicles would be bought for the security services to address their transportation needs.
Mr Amidu thanked the chiefs and people of the Upper East Region and appealed to them to continue to support the government to enable it deliver on its promises and reduce poverty.
The Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area, Pe Charles Awiah Awampaga, commended government for its laudable development projects and appealed for the extension of more development projects especially to the three northern regions.
At Mirigu and Kandiga where the chiefs and people appealed for rehabilitation of their dams, electricity and a befitting police station, the Sector Minister assured them that their needs would be addressed.
