Government commended for implementing NHIS and FCUBE

Owuram-Asamakese (E/R), Sept. 25, GNA – The Executive Director for the “Health for All Herbal Clinic” at Owuram, Dr Normeshie Anthony, has commended the government for the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE).

Speaking to the GNA at Owuram, Dr Normeshie called on Ghanaians to support the two polices and “The outcome in the long term would bring smiles to Ghanaians”.

The Executive Director, who was a National President of the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (GHAFTRAM), noted that about 80 per cent of the rural population depended on herbal medicine and products and appealed to the NHIS policy planners to consider including some renowned traditional herbalists in the implementation of the scheme alongside orthodox medical practitioners. Dr Normeshie described the scheme as a laudable one but pointed out that its success or failure depended to a large extent on planers and implementers.

The Executive Director who is also a member of the Ghana AIDS Commission appealed to parents and all other stakeholders in education to ensure that all children of school going age were enrolled and their basic needs such as uniforms provided since the government had made available funds for the payment of schools fees.
