Accra, May 17, GNA – The Tema District Council of Labour (TDCL) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday called on government to address issues raised by the leadership of organized labour during this year’s May Day parade.
It contended that workers had not witnessed signs that government was trying to mitigate the harsh effects of the economy on workers and all Ghanaians in general.
“This action and inaction on the part of government have the tendency of creating tension on the labour front,” said a statement issued in Accra by TDCL and signed by its chairman, Mr Wilson Agana. The statement said in light of anxieties of members, government should respond to the plight of workers in good time.
The TDCL said the speech of the Secretary-General, Mr Kwasi Adu-Amankwa at the May Day parade “really reflects the expectation of all Ghanaians for the TUC to champion the cause of the ordinary man”. However, it said, there was equally an expectation from members to know the extent to which government had addressed the issues raised by organized labour and the steps taken to ensure compliance with workers concerns.
