Government assists people in honcho zones in Upper East

Garu-Tempane (U/E), Nov. 29, GNA – Government on Thursday assisted people who were living in the oncho areas in the Garu-Tempane District and were affected by the black flies with farm implements worth 800 million The farm implements included bullock ploughs, corn sheller, donkey carts, soka pumps and cutlasses. The District Chief Executive for the Garu-Tempane District, Mr. Emmanuel Asigre, said the implements were to help those affected by the black flies to farm.

He explained that the National Oncho Secretariat facilitated the process and the fund for the farming implements came from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. Mr Asigre said prior to the donation of the items, a publicity campaign team was constituted to sensitize community members about the non-existence of onchocerciasis (river blindness) in the area. He commended government for the items and said it would enhance farming especially during dry season farming.
