Wa, July 19, GNA – Mrs Irene Ducan-Adanusa, General secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Friday urged the government to give financial support to teachers undertaking sandwich and distance learning programmes to boost their morale and enhance teaching and learning.

She appealed to the authorities to put in place concrete measures towards the improvement of education in the country. Mrs Ducan-Adanusa said this when she addressed the closing session of a five-day course for 154 first and second cycle school teachers from the Upper East and Upper West Regions at Wa.

The course that was organised by GNAT in collaboration with the Canadian Teachers Federation, was the first of its kind in that area since the inception of the programme in 1984.

Participants’ knowledge in Mathematics, Science, Technical Skills and Educational Administration were updated.

The GNAT General Secretary appealed to the government to ensure quality education for the Ghanaian child.

Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister said the NPP government would provide infrastructure to facilitate teaching and learning.

On second cycle education, he said the government’s programme to establish a model senior secondary school in every district was on course.

Mr Mogtari announced that bids were being evaluated for work to begin on the up-grading of the Wa and Lawra Secondary Schools under the first phase of the programme.

The Regional Minister appealed to teachers to work assiduously to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr John Nyeagbe, the course director, urged the teachers to upgrade their skills towards the development of education in the country.
