Government asked to re-consider role of chiefs in party politics

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2012 parliamentary aspirant for Sege Constituency, Mr Divine Otu Agorhom, called on Government to reconsider the role of traditional rulers in modern democratic governance.

He said traditional rulers played crucial roles in the attainment of Ghana’s independence, but subsequent Governments have forgotten about them.

Mr Agorhom made the call at an inter-denominational church service, organized to launch his campaign, at Anyamam, in the Dangme East District.

He regretted that politicians were using traditional rulers for their selfish ends though the 1992 Constitution prohibits chiefs from participating in active partisan politics.

Mr Agorhom contested the Sege seat on the ticket of the NPP in 2008, but he lost to the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament Mr Alfred Abayateye.
