Government asked to execute new projects in deprived regions

Mr. Alagskomah Asakeya Noble, a cadre of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on government to consider executing new projects in deprived regions of the country.

A statement signed by Noble copied to Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga, expressed worry that a facility like the Cervical Cancer Screening Centre was located in Kumasi and Accra, whilst the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions lacked the facility.

He said, “Other projects of grave concern are the airport and passport offices all located in Tamale. People from Nandom in the Upper West and Garu-Tempane in the Upper East Regions will have to travel over four hundred kilometres to and from this place to have access to plane and passports.”

Mr. Noble regretted that in the 1980s an attempt was made by the government to construct an airport at Sherigu in Bolgatanga and the chief and people of the area released land for the project, but it was suspended and the equipment sent away.

He called on government to consider establishing another Cervical Cancer Screening Centre and airports in the Upper East and Upper West Regions.

On conflicts, Mr. Noble appealed to government to build the capacity of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to enable them form community surveillance teams to detect early warning signals to deal with conflicts before they escalate.**
