Ghanaian gospel musician Broda Sammy has been hit with a personal tragedy following the passing of his mother, affectionately known as Auntie Kokwaa.
The 80-year-old reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20, 2025, around 2:00 a.m. at Bremang in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, after battling a prolonged illness.
Confirming the heartbreaking news in an exclusive interview with The Spectator, Broda Sammy, who is the only child of the late Auntie Kokwaa, expressed his devastation.
“This is a very difficult time for me and my family,” he said. “She was everything to me.”
He added that the family would be meeting later in the day to finalize funeral and burial arrangements. “Details of these plans,” he noted, “will be made public after the meeting.”
In the wake of the announcement, fans and fellow musicians have taken to social media to share their condolences and support for the gospel artiste as he navigates this painful loss.
