Good Roads Necessary For Development

Accra The Ministry of Roads and Transport today stressed its determination to make the road sector viable to support the ongoing socio-economic transformation.

This is why it is investing so much to train personnel of local contracting firms at a lower cost, Mr. Steve Akorli, a Deputy Minister at the Ministry, said at the opening of a two-week course for 40 professional and technical personnel of road contractors.

They would be taken through company law, corporate planning, joint ventures, financial management, basic accounting and quality control. Mr. Akorli noted that the capacity of local road contractors is still low and does not meet the country’s requirements. It was in recognition of this that the Ministry has shown commitment to regularly organise such courses for all levels of personnel in the road contracting industry.

Mr. Akron said in future, the evaluation of any firm’s application for renewal and or upgrading of certificate of classification will largely depend on the level of its trained personnel.
