Gonja Traditional Council holds ordinary meeting

The Gonja Traditional Council has held its Annual Ordinary Meeting at Busunu in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region, to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the development of Gonjaland.

The meeting, which was attended by paramount chiefs and people of Gonja extraction, was also to find lasting solutions to chieftaincy matters, promote development and human interaction, as well as build the Gonja cultural heritage.

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister, who addressed the meeting on Wednesday, urged the chiefs and people of Gonjaland “to continue to see each other as one family, and use dialogue to iron out your differences without having to take to arms.”

Alhaji Limuna said “there are several approaches by potential investors to pump in resources, and also partner others in various sectors,” and urged all in Gonjaland to do their best to facilitate investment in the Gonja Traditional Area.

He spoke about the forthcoming district assembly elections, and urged all to participate in the exercise and elect credible candidates who would represent the interest of communities at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly levels to ensure development.

Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Essa, Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, who spoke through the Registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council, urged all to protect, prevent, and promote peace in Gonjaland, adding, “I wish to advise the traditional front liners, or structures to assiduously work in a team to promote peace.”

Yagbonwura Essa said the Gonja Traditional Council and chiefs in Gonjaland were ready to release lands for investment, and invited investors to come to Gonjaland to undertake their activities.

He thanked the government for development projects initiated in the area, and appealed for the establishment of a College of Education in Gonjaland “to further facilitate our learning desire to serve mother Ghana.”
