Apam (C/R), Feb. 1, GNA – Mr. Mark Nii Lamptey, Manager of Gomoaman Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, has promised that the Scheme would settle its indebtedness to health providers in Gomoa East and Gomoa West Districts, to enable them to sustain their services to the people in the area. He told GNA that the Scheme was going through difficulties as a result of malpractices on the part of some health providers. Mr. Lamptey said the National Health Insurance Authority had taken measures to streamline operations of the scheme, which has resulted in delay in release of funds for the fourth quarter of last year. He asked the health providers to have trust in the Scheme and continue to render services to clients of the scheme.
In a related development, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Me nsah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, had cautioned health providers against turning away clients of the scheme under the pretext that the Scheme owe them. He told GNA at Apam that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Scheme and the health providers and would consider it a betrayal of trust if they turn away any clients who would visit their facilities because the scheme owe them. Mr Aidoo-Mensah expressed worry that some health providers were not cooperating with the authorities in efforts to find solution to problems affecting the scheme in the area. He said that government was making efforts to make the National Health Insurance Scheme effective and appealed to the people to register with the scheme so that they could have access to quality and affordable health care.
