Gomoa West MP donates desks to schools

Dawurampong (C/R), Aug 16, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa West, Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, has donated 500 dual desks to some schools in the district.

The furniture which was provided from the MP’s share of the Common Fund, was to prevent a shortage of the item in some schools.

Presenting the desks to Mr Fred P.K. Dunyoh, District Director of Education, Mr Arthur said provision of quality education was cost intensive which government alone could not shoulder, and appealed to philanthropists, organisations, corporate bodies and donor agencies to complement the efforts of government.

The MP blamed the falling standards of education in the district on parents, teachers, pupils and the society as a whole and urged all stakeholders to play the roles expected of them for the deivery of quality education.

He advised children to take advantage of electricity in the communities to study hard instead of watching television programmes and video shows.

Mr Dunyoh pointed out that parents had the greater responsibility of training children, and urged them to make their contributions toward education of children be felt.

He advised parents to ensure that children were fed at home before leaving for school.

Mr Dunyoh cautioned lazy teachers in the district to reform or be released from the district.

Nana Kwame Arhin, Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, deplored attacks on teachers by parents when they (teachers) disciplined children, and indicated that such attitude did augur well for discipline in the school.

Nana Aidoo, Chairman of Dawurampong Circuit Headteachers Association, urged parents to stop taking their children to farm during school hours as it contributed to the falling standard of education in the area.
