Gomoa West Health Directorate exceeds polio immunisation target

Apam, Nov. 19, GNA – The Gomoa West District Health Directorate has exceeded its target in Oral Polio Vail and Post-partum (OPV) vitamin A supplement administration, during the integrated maternal and child health exercise that spanned November 12-14. Ms Gifty Ankrah District Director who made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Apam on Wednesday said children under five and breastfeeding mothers within eight weeks of delivery (postpartum)benefited from the exercise.

She said out of the 25,629 target population for OPV, the directorate achieved 27,455 representing 107 per cent. She said out of the expected 23,066 children targeted for vitamin A supplement, 21,279 were covered representing 92 per cent. Ms Ankrah said 14,449 children out of the targeted 15,377 were dewormed representing 94 per cent. She urged mothers to give full support to such exercises to facilitate early eradication of polio from the country. 19 Nov. 09
