Gomoa West District Assembly exceeds revenue target for 2011

The Gomoa West District Assembly had collected GH¢155,196.12 in 2011 exceeding the estimated target of GH¢149,359.00 for the year.

It had also collected GH¢60,404.87 as at March 31, 2012, out of the estimated revenue of GH¢153,648.00.

Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), announced these at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the Sixth Assembly, at Apam.

He said: “From the records so far, I believe that the Assembly will perform better in revenue collection for this year,” and appealed to the assembly members, opinion leaders and people to support revenue collectors to perform their duties effectively.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah, expressed satisfaction about the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise in the district.

He commended the assembly members, traditional rulers, political parties, District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, Electoral Commission and the people for supporting the exercise.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah announced that the Assembly had entered into an agreement with Zoomlion Limited, a sanitation company, towards the improvement of sanitation in the district.

This would enable the assembly to hire refuse trucks and have disinfestation and fumigation services.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said that, the Assembly had passed the Functional Organisational Assessment Toll for 2010, used by Local Government and Rural Development to assess the performance of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, which has qualified the assembly to access the District Development Fund.

Mr Anthony Eyiah Quansah, Presiding Member of the Assembly, cautioned assembly members against partisan politics since the Local Government Act prevents them from any such act.**
