Gomoa Teachers attend workshop on HIV/AIDS

Gomoa Aboso (C/R), March 27, GNA- The Sara Communication Initiative (SCI) in conjunction with the African Youth Alliance, have organized a day’s workshop on HIV/AIDS for 47 Junior Secondary School Teachers from five circuits in the Gomoa district.

The aims and objectives of the workshop were to afford the teachers opportunities to update their knowledge on syphilis, HIV/AIDS and the use of condoms.

Addressing the participants, Mr J.E.S. Baffoe, Assistant Director of Education in charge of Finance and Administration, urged the participants to encourage the formation of Sara clubs in the various schools to enable the students to derive maximum benefit of the programme.

He called on the teachers to involve pupils in primary schools to take part in the activities of the organization to promote healthy growth and develop the habit of reading.

Ms Theresa L.A. Paidoo, Assistant Director in charge of Girl-Child Education in the Gomoa district, expressed concern about low enrolment and retention in schools by the girls.

She called on chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders, unit committees and parents to encourage girl-child education since education holds the key to development.
