Gomoa Mampong appeals for electrification

Gomoa Mampong, (C/R), Sept 18, GNA – The Chiefs and people of Gomoa Mampong in the Central Region, have appealed to the Minister of Energy to help connect the town to the national grid. Nana Mensah-Essel III, Chief of the town made the appeal when he addressed the people to climax the annual Akwambo Festival at Gomao Mampong at the weekend.

He regretted that four nearby towns, Gomoa Dabiso, Kokofu Tarkwa and Gomoa Shim had been connected to national grid, but Gomoa Mampong was set aside even though the people had erected more than 30 electricity poles.

According to Nana Mensah-Essel, when the chiefs and opinion leaders contacted the contractor working in the four towns, he was that Mampong was not among the list.

He appealed to the government and the Gomoa District Assembly to rescue the people from difficulties since potential investors had refused to invest in the town.

Nana Aduse Poku, District Finance Officer who read the speech on behalf of the Chief Executive, Ms Joyce Aidoo, asked the people to initiate projects to enable the government assist them to raise their living standards. Ms Aidoo urged the parents to take advantage of the capitation grant by the government to send their children to school especially the girl-child.

Mr Fred Oscar Abban, Presiding Member of the Gomoa District Assembly, said that Manpong had benefited from a 250 million-cedi four-unit Classroom from the HIPC Fund with toilet facility, office and store while Old Methodist Primary School had also been rehabilitated at the cost of 9 million cedis.

Mr Alban, who is also the Assemblyman for the Manpong/Kokofu Electoral Area, stated that school had been opened at Manpong to stop the children from walking long distance to nearby towns. He noted that about 100 women in the electoral area had received 60 million cedis under the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) to expand their businesses.

Ms Comfort Morgan, District Information Officer, urged women to impress upon their husbands to embrace and register with the District Mutual Health Insurance to enable them to have quality health care. Ms Morgan who is also the Assembly Woman for the Bombua/Nsawam Electoral Area at Apam called on women to take up the challenge and participate both politics and other national issues to enhance their well being. 18 Sept 05
