Gomoa Eshiem gets library

Gomoa Eshiem (C/R), May 8, GNA – A library established at Gomoa Eshiem Catholic Primary School with the help of Mr John Baxter, a British and his Ghanaian wife, Mary was inaugurated at the weekend. Mr and Mrs Baxter provided over 3,000 pieces of books covering science, mathematics, social skills and other subjects estimated at more than 80 million cedis for the library.
Speaking at the function, Mr Baxter expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education Youth and Sports for exempting them from paying duties on the books.
He was also grateful to institutions and individuals who donated the books when his wife who hails from the town made an appeal on behalf of the school.
He urged teachers and parents to encourage children to read the books to broaden their knowledge.
Mr J.E.S. Baffoe, Assistant Director at the Gomoa District Directorate of Education, commended the couple for soliciting for the books and advised teachers and pupils to ensure that the books were properly handled to prolong their lifespan.
Mr E.B. Yawson Essah, Head-teacher of the school, appealed to the couple to provide the school with computers to make the pupils computer literate.
Nana Kwa Donkor III, Chief of the town said the school and the community had decided to name the library after Mr and Mrs Baxter in appreciation of the good work they have done.
